Ever since my Grandma died, I've had difficulty writing. It could be a coincidence, it could be an excuse but that's my story. So I started listening to other peoples stories. Hurt, Pain, Joy whatever... and one thing that struck me most were the heartbreak stories. It wasn't the stories, it was how we found humour in the experience and could laugh away the pain.
I've used the stories of different females, and how guys have avoided relationships but come up with things they like about us... this poem outlines the general sex appeal which guys discuss, and goes on to explain that it's the sex appeal that they like not us. It's based on a collection of stories told by victims of the 'Yoruba Demon' stereotype.
It's the way you have the confidence to stare
That creates a strong tension in the air.
It's the swish and sway of your Peruvian hair
And how you look amazing no matter what you wear?
It's how you never rely heavily on make-up.
And how your hips align with your double D cups.
How you look stunning when you wake up
And you hold on when I act up.
It's the sound of your heels meeting the ground
Tailed by your silouhette, in the background.
And followed by your bottom that's so perfectly round
And your manner of speech, so profound.
It's the way you sing along to the Beyoncé song,
Or when I hit you with a rap line, you respond.
And you never front when Olamide comes on.
It's like in every crowd, you always belong.
It's the silence when you take care of your bills.
And how you dance all night, but never take off your heels.
How you watch football, play FIFA and generally chill
Damn girl, you define sex appeal.

But It's 'I like hanging out with you'
Cos it's never really you they like,
It's the kisess and your touch
That female touch
Not because they've had it rough
But because 'being alone is sometimes tough'
So both of you have had enough
But he's 'not looking for love'
And it's 'I care about you'
Because a relationship isn't the deal
And God forbid this emotion stuff,
'Men don't feel'
They just 'keep it real'
With you hoping his emotions will one day reveal
You're more than your sex appeal.
So ladies, this isn't everyone's story. This could've been your past or may be your current story, but if you can relate or know someone who can, join in with #ItsTheWay, #SexAppeal #Demon Let's 'expose' these Demons!!! Get to hashtagging!!!
