Our Heroes are dying

In the space of a week, the sporting world has lost Muhammed Ali (World renowed boxer) and , Kimbo Slice (MMA Fighter -UFC) and Stephen Keshi (Ex-Nigerian Football Team Coach. Half the year hasn’t even gone and we’ve lost other iconic figures including Harper Lee (Writer), Prince (Musician), Alan Rickman (Actor), David Bowie (Musician), Afeni Shakur (Political Activist) and the list goes on, to family and friends inclusive. All these people displayed acts for us to remember, precedents for us to aspire to achieve and made way for us to continue. They are our heroes in various interests and they are no more.
May they rest in perfect peace.
Look up!
That man has broken down doors.
That woman has charged down the barrier.
That group, they’ve sang a good song.
They spoke with a voice
They stood for a cause
And now, we have it easy.
Look down.
Those people have a different vantage.
Those people aren’t as fortunate.
That girl, she isn’t as fortunate
That young man isn’t as privileged.
They fight to survive
They don’t have that advantage.
And, they, they have it tough.
Look up!
No, look even higher.
The ones that were up have ascended.
They left us in this world
They’ve transcended.
Their legacies live,
But they, they have died
And what’s left in this world
Is ‘us’ who are alive.
Look forward.
Yes to your environment.
To your reflection in the mirror.
To those of you who have a cause at heart
Who are still struggling to find ‘the right way to start’
You all have the platform set
You’re not here to build from ground zero
For the greats are going and the time has come
For you to step up and be a hero.
